While we don't quite live in the heart of cranberry country, we're pretty close. Our town has several privately owned cranberry bogs that (most likely) sell cranberries to Ocean Spray so that the nation can get its fill of Cran-Grape juice. Wait, that's my husband that can't get enough Cran-Grape juice. And it has to be Ocean Spray. But I digress...
Myself, I love the 2 days a year when the cranberries are floating in the bog before harvesting. The bogs are flooded and with some persuasion, the cranberries rise up like floating treasures. When they are corraled all together it makes a beautiful, picture perfect New England fall scene. Even if the only camera you have is your iPhone ;-)
I drive by this bog about 3 times a day (or so it seems). We refer to it as 'Kara's grandparents' bog' because Ebby's friend Kara's grandparents own it. We're clever like that.
A few days after I took these pictures we drove by again and saw that the fruits of the cranberry harvest were for sale. $5 for a giant bag. Of course I didn't have $5 in cash--but I did have my camera phone again.
And that concludes today's postcard from New England. Happy Harvesting!
