And I thought July was a big birthday month ;-)
So far this month, we've celebrated my dad's birthday, my best friend's birthday, my favorite uncle's birthday (from afar, he's currently working in S. Korea), and yesterday, my mom's birthday.
True to my 'last minute Lucy' (a phrase I just coined for myself) self, I waited until yesterday morning at 9:30 to begin her Happy Birthday banner. To make things even more interesting, I opted to do glue and glitter letters instead of painted letters--way more sparkle, way more drying time. It wasn't until after I started laying down the glitter that it occurred to me that the drying time could be an issue. Thankfully, things worked out and I was stringing the banner by 2pm.
Again, phew.
I loved making this banner for many reasons: I worked with my favorite colors (blue & green) and one of my favorite motifs (birds) and was making it for one of my favorite people (my mom :-) ).
Here are a few detail shots (click to enlarge and really see the dimension)...
The bird in the middle of the banner is made with cardstock covered chipboard. The two birds at either end, are wooden and from IKEA. I bought them last year and originally they were black with black and white accordion folded paper wings. I painted them blue and inserted new wings using lime green tissue paper. They turned out more like flowers than wings but I just glittered them a bit and went with it.
My mom loved it (of course, she is my mom after all). We hung it up across one of her oversized room openings and she assured me it will be there for a good, long time.
