Before getting back out on the ice on Sunday, Bobby Law and I headed out Saturday night for some supplies.
- New, more comfortable skates for me $60
- Two youth hockey sticks $35
- S'mores stuffs $10
Seems that running an ice rink empire isn't exactly cheap nowadays. Then again, what is? Except for maybe Market Basket (and my dad).
Sunday was more of a Ladies Day on the ice. Plus Bobby Law, natch. Ebby's friend Ellie came over to skate ~ and apparently to teach Ebby how to skate.
All hail the beach chair! Yep, it was Ebby's first skate of the season and she's only been skating a handful of times, at least one of which was prior to 2005. She was a bit rusty. Ellie is a very patient teacher (and patient person in general).
For my part, I just zoomed by in my new skates and pretended to be an airplane. I am so helpful. I did provide some comic relief when I couldn't stop my lightning fast skating, crashed into the boards and went right out of the rink. I stayed on my feet though--#amazing.
A funny thing happened later in the afternoon after Ellie left and the sun was setting.
Ebby laced up her skates and went back on the ice ~ alone. Without even a chair.
It was a miracle I tell you, without an audience, she suddenly remembered that she could actually skate! Or Ellie's just a really good teacher ;-).
She soon had company and tried her hand at hockey. All sorts of adventurous.
And there you have it, our weekend on ice.
Of course this week brought a big thaw to the rink ~ or Nature's Zamboni as I like to think of it.
However, it's freezing up again as I type, and hopefully the ice will be ready to go in the next day or two. As long as it's going to be winter, it might as well be fun!
